We’ve heard this story countless times: people study English grammar in school, yet never feel comfortable actually speaking it. This is why we started Doco Demo Eigo Club. Our focus is ei kaiwa—real, practical conversation that builds confidence through speaking, not memorization. Whether you’re brand new to speaking English or already have some experience and want to level up, our lessons are personalized to help you speak naturally and confidently.
Doco Demo Eigo Club’s lessons are held remotely, so you can access our practice sessions from anywhere in the world with WiFi (doco demo kara!). If you travel often or prefer to learn from the comforts of your own home, our sessions would be perfect for you!
In person classes and special workshops are held locally in Miura, Kanagawa and surrounding areas within the Kanto region.

What we offer
group sessions
Group sessions are relaxed and fun English practice classes led by Marin and Joe-sensei.
This 6-week course meets once a week and offers plenty of opportunities to practice English—not only with Marin and Joe, but also with fellow classmates in a welcoming, supportive group environment.
Classes are divided into three groups: Kids (ages 6–12), Teens (ages 13-17) and Adults (18 and older), ensuring age-appropriate learning and interaction.
All classes are held remotely, so you can join from the comfort of your home—or from anywhere in the world.
private lessons
Private lessons are available for learners of all ages, from young children to adults, and are fully personalized one-on-one English conversation sessions designed around your individual goals and interests.
Whether you’re preparing for travel, hoping to make new international friends, or need professional English for an upcoming business meeting, our instructors will guide you in exactly what you want to practice and improve at a pace that suits you.
You can choose to study with either Marin or Joe-sensei and select the days and times that best fit your schedule. All private lessons are held remotely, giving you the flexibility to learn from anywhere.
In-person practice
In-person practice sessions are available to students living in Miura, Kanagawa and the surrounding Kanto region, or to members who are willing to travel to the area. This option is perfect for those who want to practice real-life English conversation face-to-face with Marin or Joe-sensei—or even with both of us together.
Our team will contact you directly to discuss locations, available days, and times for all in-person sessions.
special events + workshops
In addition to our regular classes, we host virtual workshops focused on practical, real-life topics such as making friends in English, slang and natural expressions, English for travel, English for business, and more. These will be announced through our newsletter, website, and social media pages!
Special in-person events are held seasonally, where you can join Marin and Joe sensei and fellow club members to speak English while doing fun activities together. From beach outings and arts and crafts in the park to farming experiences using English, we have lots of exciting plans for the club!
Meet the Instructors
Marin sensei was born in Japan and raised in the United States from early childhood, spending the last 30 years living in San Diego and Los Angeles, California. English is her first native language, and she is also fluent in Japanese, which she learned at home from her parents and through weekend studies at a private Japanese school. This bilingual background allows Marin to bridge both languages and cultures with ease.
A natural extrovert, Marin thrives on connection and community. She loves socializing, making new friends, and helping people feel comfortable expressing themselves. Her passion for teaching began through her work as a dance instructor in Los Angeles, where she discovered how much she enjoys guiding others, building confidence, and supporting personal growth.
Marin has taught English in both Japan and the United States, working with students in person and online. She also brings over 10 years of experience in American corporate environments, giving her strong expertise in business English. Marin specializes in conversational English and especially enjoys teaching American slang, cultural references, and natural expressions used in everyday life.
If you’re looking for conversational English practice with clear and supportive Japanese guidance, Marin is an excellent choice. From casual conversation and social English to professional and business communication, she offers engaging lessons tailored to your goals.
Joe sensei is from Los Angeles, California, and is a published writer and poet with a lifelong love of language. When he’s not teaching, he enjoys collecting books, spending time outdoors, hanging out at the beach, and playing bass guitar.
With over 10 years of experience tutoring junior high students in English, Joe has also taught courses in poetry and creative writing. At Doco Demo Eigo Club, he focuses on conversational English using The Direct Method, Communicative Language Teaching, and Task-Based Learning. His lessons emphasize full English immersion, active communication, and practical tasks that help students build real confidence.
Joe is a great fit for students who prefer the Direct Method (English-to-English teaching) or already have some familiarity with English and want to practice speaking naturally with an American instructor. He works with students who want to jump into conversation and improve fluency in real-life situations.
Joe takes time to understand each student’s level and goals, meeting them where they need the most support. He can help with schoolwork, professional English, or create a personalized learning plan for casual conversation. Whether you want to sound more natural, more academic, or both, Joe is here to help in a supportive and engaging learning environment.

How it works
First, book your introductory call
During our call, we will discuss what level of English conversation practice you are seeking, and what type of class is best suited for you: group sessions, private lessons, or in-person private classes*.
Introductory calls are only 1,000 yen!
*We can only offer in-person private classes if you are based in Miura, Kanagawa or willing to travel to this area.
Remote, group sessions
During our discovery call, we will let you know which group classes are available to join and we will discuss the dates and times. Once the right group class series is chosen, you will be instructed to sign up through our scheduling portal.
Payment options for private lessons
Pay as you go, per lesson OR buy a lesson package and get a discount!

For in-person, private lessons
